Following the sudden loss of my son Adam in March 2016 after he took his own life, it became apparent that were no support groups in North Derbyshire that provided support to parents or siblings when the sudden death of a child or young person occurs, in particular following suicide.

I discovered that there were other parents in a similar situation who also expressed a need to meet and share experiences, coping strategies and offer peer support.

The sudden loss of a child brings a wide range of emotions to a family when your world is changed overnight.  My aims are to bring together parents and siblings who have shared this experience and feel in need of support, or who feel able to offer support to others.

Adam was lovely, a truly wonderful son. He was so precious.  You always think you’re never going to lose a child. You always think ‘it’ll happen to someone else, not me. I spoke to Adam every day and I was never concerned he was feeling like this.  It was a shocking bolt out of the blue.

My hope is that the Sudden Loss Support Group will provide friendship, information and support and that our website will enable families to share memories and find words of comfort.  If the group helps just one person, I’ll be happy.
